A major objective of the CAWQ is to promote the research and capabilities of people involved in water quality research in Canada. This is accomplished by hosting regional conferences each year in the three regional areas (Eastern, Central and Western) of Canada.

  • Laboratory tests of properties of chemicals that provide information on their aquatic fate and effects
  • Microcosm testing which provides information on chemical fate and effects
  • Bioaccumulation of contaminants in and from polluted aquatic ecosystems
  • Aquatic ecotoxicology
  • Endocrine disruptors
  • Pathogenic organisms
  • Modelling of the fate of contaminants in aquatic ecosystems

  • Preventive measures
  • Strategies and policies related to water pollution control

Particular emphasis is placed on providing exposure of the talents, skills and work of students who have entered the water quality field. At each of these conferences, the presenter of the "best student presentation" is awarded the Philip H. Jones Award, which includes several honours and a cash prize.

Please contact the CAWQ if you are interested in getting involved in the organization or hosting of these conferences. In particular, you can assist the CAWQ by volunteering to:

  • chair a conference session
  • organize a theme session at a conference
  • become a member of a technical committee for reviewing abstracts
  • judging student presentation for the Philip H. Jones Award
  • hosting a conference

14th International Conference, IWA Diffuse Pollution Specialist Group: Diffuse Pollution and Eutrophication

Mont-Sainte-Anne, QC, Canada, 12-17 September 2010.

The conference aims to build a cooperation bridge to share and transfer the knowledge and technology among established and young specialists from developed and developing countries interested in diffuse pollution.
