All members are nominated by the nominating committee and confirmed at the Annual General Meeting that is held during the Central Regional Conference, the first week of February.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the Canadian National Committee of the International Water Association (CNC\/IWA) is comprised of the Executive Committee of the CAWQ and other additional members as may be required to comply with the Constitution of the IWA. She is the founder of the Coastal Environment Research Laboratory (CERL), where her research focuses on developing bio-based technologies for monitoring and mitigating marine and coastal pollution. As a key researcher at the Northern Region Persistent Organic Pollution (NRPOP) Control Laboratory, Dr. Zhang explores the occurrence, fate, and remediation of emerging organic contaminants. Her expertise includes marine oil spill response, coastal and inland site remediation, wastewater treatment, ocean carbon dioxide removal, reservoir souring control, and solid waste management.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Zhang has led over 50 funded research projects and published more than 160 peer-reviewed journal articles. Her innovative work has earned her numerous accolades, including the NSERC Discovery Accelerator Supplement and the Memorial University President&#8217;s Award for Outstanding Research. He is also a Professor and UArctic Research Chair in the Department of Civil Engineering, Director of the Northern Region Persistent Organic Pollution (NRPOP) Control Laboratory, and Founding Director of the NSERC-funded PEOPLE Network\u2014an international initiative tackling persistent, emerging, and organic pollutants.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1093\" data-end=\"1550\">Dr. Chen\u2019s interdisciplinary research integrates environmental engineering with nano-\/bio-technologies and advanced modeling to develop innovative solutions for environmental protection and resource management. Hubert Cabana is an expert in environmental biotechnology (mainly fungal and enzymatic processes) dedicated to the elimination of trace organic contaminants  present in wastewater. In the past 10 years of research, he has developed innovative approaches for the development of enzymatic bioprocesses, such as new generation of LME-based reusable biocatalysts and bioreactors designed for their use, mainly dedicated to the elimination of emerging pollutants as well as priority pollutants such as PAHs and phenols.
