Dr. Bing Chen



Dr. Bing Chen is a globally recognized leader in environmental engineering and sustainability, currently serving as Interim Dean of Engineering and Applied Science at Memorial University. He is also a Professor and UArctic Research Chair in the Department of Civil Engineering, Director of the Northern Region Persistent Organic Pollution (NRPOP) Control Laboratory, and Founding Director of the NSERC-funded PEOPLE Network—an international initiative tackling persistent, emerging, and organic pollutants.

Dr. Chen’s interdisciplinary research integrates environmental engineering with nano-/bio-technologies and advanced modeling to develop innovative solutions for environmental protection and resource management. He has served as Principal Investigator or Co-PI on over 60 national and international projects and authored more than 470 technical publications, including over 160 peer-reviewed journal articles, three books, and eight patents or disclosures.

A dedicated mentor, Dr. Chen has supervised or co-supervised more than 300 highly qualified personnel (HQP), including over 80 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, many of whom have gone on to leadership roles in academia, industry, government, and NGOs worldwide.
